The June long weekend we were Melbourne bound for my sister in-law Bec’s 40th birthday celebrations. We were lucky enough to stay at party headquarters for some great catch up and cousin time. My husbands family are full of (and I’m not bragging) super talented folk there are musicians, actors, singers, performers, screen writers, dancers, producers and all that fall under this field of artful cleverness. Lucky for me I get to enjoy all this entertainment from a front row seat at gatherings.
Bec is an accomplished Pianist and when she plays she makes the piano sing I don’t know the word to describe how awestruck I am when she plays. Her husband Hugh is a clever fellow, guitarist and vocals from well known Aussie band Redgum – plus all the other instruments they master. So this is quick look at our long weekend of birthdays (Bec & our Max happen to celebrate the same day) live music, a little visit to Queen St markets and just enjoying great company. Starting with food for this little bunch of our heart stealers when we arrived.

Gently guided by their Dad thru the busy crowds at the produce pavilion – so many choices of produce
Arriving back at the house after what I would call a very busy time at the market with 5 little people, Hugh and Bec were playing and getting ready for the party. Instant chill out.
And the party begins, great food, beverages, dancing, some lovely words and great music.
This was certainly a treat, so much talent here – Steve Sedergreen on Piano, James Clark on Bass, Peter Hooper on Banjo, Hugh on Guitar and the soulful voice of Juliarna Clark. Mesmerising.
After the set Steve Sedergreen, one of Australia’s top Jazz Pianists sat with our eldest Dallas who is learning Piano for some piano insight. Very cool.
A quick look around Hugh’s recording studio – a few years back Hugh wrote a song about an Australian Christmas on the farm, the film clip was recorded at the Harris family farm and surrounding area late 2014.
Max getting his guitar ready for his first lesson with Uncle Hugh before we headed home. Sentimental overload.
