The abundance of red grapes on our vine this year has been so beyond plentiful. The options of what to do with them caused for a few visits to the best recipes and taste websites and deliberating with my beautiful Mum on their best use. Jam was the overall winner. Wine was just too much time dedication for what time I had spare & I am too impatient to await the ferment to drink a glass of wine, but mostly as my Mum would have returned home and I would not able to share the first glass with her.
So, carefully negotiating the bees and with a few happy & eager little Harris’ helpers in tow we hunted and gathered 2 laundry baskets full of grape bunches and the journey of grape to grape jam began.

At the final arrival of taste test time well the tastebuds certainly did get a serious kick in the ‘how to instantly have a sugar hit overload’. It was super delish as we love sweet things but we agreed it would be best used as a dessert sauce. So the result of jars and jars of grape jam with a progression to grape dessert sauce was still a success. Mum must have approved as a jumble of jars were packed in her suitcase to take back home with her to share with the family.
Next year jam attempt #2 with a hold back on the sugar, and maybe the year after will attempt the wine…
